Summary

As a member of BDUK you will gain experience of Government delivery with a mix of career civil servants and expert contractors; including telecommunications professionals, finance, and digital & commercial specialists, analysts, data scientists and project management specialists.​​​

You will have the opportunity to work in a high profile, high performing team with regular exposure to ministers and senior stakeholders across the whole country.

You will also work with a range of internal and external stakeholders and will gain a unique range of career development, skills and learning opportunities in a Government-led and funded commercial programme delivering one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects. ​​​

There will be opportunities to develop and combine Data Science with analysis of evidence to scope design intervention approaches in support of local area plans to support supplier infrastructure builds in non commercial areas and challenging Premises.​​​

We design our interventions at both UK scale and also using the 34 million individual individual premises, to forecast their progression over the next decade. We combine delivery, financial, market, technical and geographic data to predict future scenarios. In addition, we are tracking and anticipating market activity for over 100 suppliers, whilst supporting the operation of thousands of individual grants each month.​​​

Our analysis supports rapid decision making for a £5bn programme in a dynamic market, including where best to invest our budget to get the most benefit. We explore and innovate, including machine learning techniques and generative AI. We use a range of different data science techniques to development tools, including complex geospatial visualisations to reveal insights about the nature of the market and our interventions.​​​

You will be working to identify solutions to complex problems, working with a range of data and market intelligence and this will include working with stakeholders inside BDUK, DSIT, other Government Departments and local authorities and industry, which will provide opportunities to build and grow networks of common interest. ​​​

You will also have opportunity to contribute to the development of BDUK products and high quality briefings for DSIT Ministers, to illustrate the challenges and opportunities for supporting a high profile Government objective. ​

Lead on establishing a tool set and environments for doing data science and visualisation work & providing support to BDUK colleagues make decisions on models and location for intervention.

  • Work as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver Geospatial plans and develop new insights into local Gigabit infrastructure delivery opportunities. ​​
  • Proactively investigate opportunities for using data science techniques across BDUK. ​​
  • Provide expert advice on data science and visualisation including geospatial.​​
  • Champion open, agile and iterative ways of working.​​
  • Use mixed methods to understand and tackle loosely defined problems, develop hypotheses and come up with relevant insights to formulate strategy and inform decision makers.​​
  • Work on end-to-end projects to ensure your findings are executed and tested in the desired way.​​
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of Analysts, product owners, engineers, designers and others across BDUK.​​
  • Communicate insights and recommendations to non-technical audiences, through clear visualisations and data storytelling.
