Summary
To support the running of the Lipid Clinic at Glenfield Hospital and the Lipid Clinic Postal Follow-up Service. The Lipid Service is headed by Dr P Gupta who is a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine/Chemical Pathologist To support the running of the Metabolic Bone Clinic. The Metabolic Bone Service is headed by Dr P Patel who is a Consultant in Metabolic Medicine/Chemical Pathologist To participate in the rota for supervising the departmental junior doctors on the weekly Day Ward Investigations Unit To participate in the weekly Duty Biochemists Rota. To liaise with Clinicians and users of the service in clinical investigations, management and diagnosis of diseases. The Day Ward Investigations Unit is held once a week on a Thursday. Currently the team involves 1 clinical aid, 1 administration officer, 1 nurse, 2 SHO, 1 SpR. On average 8-10 patients/per week are cared for and reports genetrated. The referrals come from both primary and secondary care and tests include short synacthen test, lactose tolerance test, water deprivation test, Denosumab injection, Zolendronate infusion, cardiomyopathy test, butter fat test and investigations for electrolyte disorders. The Day Ward Investigations Unit is lead by the three Consultants in Chemical Pathology on a rotational basis (Dr F Rahman). Access to inpatient and ward facilities are available during the Nutrition ward round and also if there is input requested from colleague clinicians. To support running the Thyroid Register To participate in the provision of a reliable, high quality clinical and analytical Chemical Pathology Service in order to provide routine and specialist services to nationally accepted standards (CPA or equivalent). To participate in the provision and development of a specialist service within the department in the area of their particular interests/experience and in discussion with Head of Service. Involvement in the evaluation and implementation of recent developments in Clinical Biochemistry to ensure that the department provides up-to-date and current good practice. To contribute to the On-Call service and to cross cover annual leave for colleague Consultants To actively participate in departmental audit and clinical governance. To participate in the teaching and training of medical students, nurses, junior medical staff, clinical scientists, biomedical scientists, other allied hospital staff (e.g. Dieticians, Pharmacists) and including General Practitioners. The appointee will share these duties with other Consultants in the Department and is provided with 0.5 SPA. To provide cover on a short term basis in the absence of colleagues. The appointee, as like other consultant colleagues in the Trust, is expected to participate in the Revalidation process as directed by the GMC and the Trust provides the necessary support to obtain this and will be provided with 1 PA of SPA.
