Teaching Fellows in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (3 Part-Time Posts in range 0.5-0.8 FTE pro-rata)
The University of Southampton is committed to excellence in all we do, applying our insights and inventiveness to solve the most complex societal and environmental challenges. As a world-leading university, with a strong and high-quality educational offering, we are renowned for our innovation and enterprise and are within the top 1% of universities worldwide. The University of Southampton’s Science Foundation Year (SFY) prepares students from diverse backgrounds to meet the challenges of our science degree courses. The year-long programme provides a rapid introduction to Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, preparing students for their chosen undergraduate degree.
As part of our SFY team, you will work with students from a range of different educational backgrounds, helping them build the science and mathematics skills they need to progress onto a variety of degrees in the University. You will be designing and delivering inspiring module and programme content, assessing outputs and working within the team to create a high quality learning environment.
Helping students to reach their potential and preparing them for success in their future study is at our core. You will be working in a small team with connections into the wider university, so being a team player and a good communicator is a must. Ability to teach across the SFY curriculum (Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics) is essential, as is a strong background in supporting students in developing their study skills. You will need to be agile and innovative in your teaching methods and approaches, identifying students’ learning needs and devising strategies to address these. These roles would suit individuals with experience of teaching two or more of Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics at A-Level/IB etc. or Year 1 Undergraduate Level, and the ability and willingness to teach the remaining area. You will have a drive for continuous improvement, bringing the latest thinking in teaching and assessment to the role, and taking an active part in the management and administration of the SFY programme.
Working at the University of Southampton gives you access to a wide range of benefits in addition to our competitive rates of pay. Our core benefits include pension scheme membership; a generous annual leave allowance and excellent family leave arrangements All our benefits can be viewed here.
As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We believe that we can only truly meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work.
