My client are currently expanding their estimating function to support their increasing workload in the water sector, particularly focusing on ongoing projects within the Severn Trent and Thames Water frameworks.
Role Overview: They are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator with a strong background in water, wastewater, and process engineering. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work predominantly from home, with necessary travel to various project sites as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take responsibility for the preparation of mechanical estimates for various projects.
- Develop detailed scopes of work from drawings, specifications, and project control documents (PCDs).
- Identify and address any errors or omissions in project scopes.
- Prepare material and subcontractor requirements for sourcing and pricing.
- Conduct technical and commercial appraisals of material and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare analytical estimates and detailed appraisals of mechanical (and ideally electrical) packages.
- Contribute to the identification and pricing of project risks.
- Attend site visits during the tender period as needed.
- Collaborate in preparing the M&E "Tender Book" to present the mechanical estimate.
- Utilise framework schedules of rates and cost curves for bench marking estimates.
About You:
- Degree Level Qualifiede in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Preferably Chartered
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator for major mechanical/electrical contractors in the water sector.
- Proven experience in pricing medium to large mechanical (and ideally electrical) engineering projects.
- Essential experience in wastewater/sewerage treatment and process engineering.
- Experience in clean water projects is advantageous.
- Familiarity with the Civil Engineering Method of Measurement.
- Strong customer focus, honesty, safety, environmental awareness, teamwork, and accountability.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, can-do approach.
- Commercially aware with the ability to think laterally and understand various Forms of Contract.
- Strong technical understanding of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, with the ability to propose alternative solutions.
- Numerate, accurate, and self-checking.
- Knowledge of the CCS 'Candy' Estimating system is advantageous, with training provided if necessary.
- Full driving licence required.
