Summary

Rothamsted Research is a leading scientific research institute, with farm sites which include Harpenden and Suffolk. We are looking for an agricultural mechanic/farm technician to support our teams at Harpenden and Suffolk, ensuring the safe and effective operation of our machinery, enabling us to continue supporting science.

If you are an ambitious individual, who is organised and a good communicator we would love to hear from you.

This role would suit a new graduate to the industry, or someone with experience in an allied industry who is looking to learn a variety of skills that come with working in a research environment.

Some practical experience working on a farm or with agricultural machinery is desirable, but not essential for this role, as the desire to learn new skills in agricultural machinery is most important.
The post holder will work alongside our experienced and qualified mechanic on site - who is keen to share their knowledge.

You will have the ability to think outside the box and share new ideas
Tasks you will support in will range from the basic servicing to working on bespoke machinery.
Be expected to understand basic health and safety
Have good communication skills.
As we are operating as a research farm, accurate record keeping and following strict protocols is essential.

This is a is full time role 37 hours per week. Initially for a 3 year fixed term period up to the 1st June 2027, with the option to extend.

The role attracts a salary upwards of £ 22,500, dependent on experience.
