Salary: AM3 £76,864pa to £82,080pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills & experience
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our offices between Christmas and New Year

The University of Hertfordshire is seeking to appoint an experienced professional to join our team as the Director of Research and Enterprise Services. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the operational management of the University’s research and enterprise portfolio, overseeing and working collaboratively with other Directors and key academic stakeholders to identify and support plans for growth in capacity, income and excellence at the University.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research and Enterprise (PVC R&E), you will shape and deliver a unified team approach across the University’s research, innovation and enterprise strategies to optimise the intellectual, scientific, economic, social and cultural impact of our research, enterprising activity and reputation.
The appointee will enjoy a high level of autonomy and responsibility to achieve strategic and operational goals. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of research and enterprise within higher education and the wider external landscape which influences delivery in areas such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF), the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and facilitate opportunities for research and enterprise staff and research student capacity building.
Your role will encompass significant decision-making, accountability for improving the success rate of research, innovation and enterprise funding applications, the effective delivery of grants and contracts and oversight of the departmental budget.

Experience and Skills needed
Candidates must have substantial experience at senior level in a research-relevant institution, together with excellent knowledge of the national and international higher education research, innovation and knowledge exchange funding landscapes. You must also have a demonstrable record of managing and developing institutional research portfolios by developing and maintaining strong links with a range of major research and innovation funders.

Qualifications
Educated with a degree (or equivalent qualification), preferably with additional higher education and/or professional development qualifications.
