We are looking for an experienced Biomedical Scientist to work as part of the friendly and welcoming team in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory at this busy hospital.

The IBMS Certificate of Competence is a requirement of this post.

We have XN9000's and Werfen ACLTOP analysers in Haematology and Biorad IH1000's in Blood transfusion.

As a Biomedical Scientist to undertake to a high standard specialist analyses and to undertake the routine work of the Blood Sciences department in both Haematology and BT.

Once fully trained you will work on the shift system working across the two disciplines. Working in line with UKAS standards and within the BSQR using our SOP's. Training and support will be given to the successful candidate.
• To provide a diagnostic, consultative and interpretative Haematology service across all sites, clinics and primary care. The speciality of Haematology includes Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion sections.
• To advise on, and maintain near patient testing facilities.
• Provides a Pathology Reception service for the receipt and handling of samples, including samples referred to other laboratories.
• The department performs analytical investigations on a range of patients’ body fluids and samples, including blood, urine and cerebral-spinal fluid. The department currently analyses approximately 3000 samples per day.
• The department provides safe and compatible blood products for transfusion to patients and advises about their optimum usage.
• The department provides an anticoagulant dosing service to patients referred by requesting clinicians.
