Summary

This post is based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) which is the largest division within the Specialist Hospitals Board of the University College Hospital Foundation NHS Trust. This postholder will work alongside the neuromuscular clinical research team. The post holder will be required to work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines, taking responsibility for the coordination and support of clinical trials within the CNMD. Responsibilities include coordination of care of patients on trials, collection and preparation of biological samples, administration of experimental agents and monitoring of expected and unexpected side effects of drugs and other treatment modalities, and patient/carer education. The post holder will be expected to develop specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and relevant disease types. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable the patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients advocate. The post holder will also be responsible for liaising with drug companies if required and other study sponsors and ensuring the accurate collection and submission of data, in line with the study protocols and research regulations, as well as to deputise for the Senior Research Nurses in their absence. The post holder will function as part of a dynamic team and have an active involvement in the wider NHNN and neuromuscular and research teams and UCLH research nurses group activity. Band 7 or Band 6 with Progression Opportunity:We recognize that candidates may not fully meet all Band 7 criteria at the time of application. Therefore, we are open to recruiting individuals at the Band 6 level with the potential for progression to Band 7 upon attaining the required competencies. Band 7 Criteria: To be considered for the Band 7 level, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following competencies: Advanced clinical assessment: Band 7 nurses possess advanced skills in conducting comprehensive and accurate assessments of patients, incorporating physical, psychological and social factors into their evaluations. Clinical decision-making: Considering multiple factors and potential outcomes, Band 7 nurses can make complex clinical decisions based on their extensive knowledge, critical thinking and experience. Evidence-based practice: Band 7 nurses have a deep understanding of research methodologies and the ability to critically appraise and apply evidence-based research findings to inform their clinical practice. Leadership and management: Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to oversee and coordinate healthcare teams, delegate tasks efficiently and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, help these nurses to perform their work effectively. Quality improvement: Band 7 nurses are skilled in quality-improvement methodologies, including data analysis, performance monitoring and initiative implementation to enhance patient safety and optimise healthcare delivery. Healthcare technology and informatics: These nurses are proficient in utilising healthcare technology, electronic medical records and informatics systems to support efficient documentation, communication and decision-making processes. Critical thinking: Nurses at Band 7 exhibit strong critical thinking skills, enabling them to analyse complex situations, identify problems and develop innovative solutions to provide the best possible care for patients. Conflict resolution and diplomacy: Band 7 nurses are adept at resolving conflicts and handling challenging situations with diplomacy, fostering positive working relationships and maintaining a harmonious and productive healthcare environment.
