We are looking for someone to join our enthusiastic and motivated Emergency Department to start ASAP.

Working in the ED with direct shop floor supervision from our 11 consultants. The post offers protected weekly departmental teaching and benefits from educational supervision by a consultant as well as many other educational opportunities on shift.

The post holder will provide clinical, administrative, supervisory, educational and training support for the day-to-day functioning of the department. The purpose of the post is to ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to each individual patient who attends the Emergency Department. The prime responsibility of the post holder will be clinical cover of the shop floor. A full shift system is operational to cover the department on a 24-hour basis. The post holder will be expected to participate fully in this rota. Further duties include the provision of GP letters within 24 hours of the patient presenting in the department, teaching, participation in Medical Audit and designated management commitments as agreed with the Clinical Supervisor.

Duties of the post
The post holder will be clinically and educationally responsible to the Consultants in Emergency Medicine.

The post holder will support the Emergency Department in:
Ensuring the effective organisation of the reception, resuscitation, diagnosis and emergency treatment of all patients presenting to the Emergency Department.

The appropriate discharge of patients to a specialist unit within the hospital and other hospitals in the area, General Practitioner or back to the community.

The direct clinical supervision and training of the Emergency Department Junior Medical staff and Emergency Nurse Practitioners working in the Emergency Department as well as the organisation and delegation of clinical work.

The readiness of the department to implement at any time the Major Incident Plan.

The post holder will contribute to the periodic reviews and verifications of these plans.

The monitoring of the quality of service given by the Emergency Department, which includes clinical audit.

Active participation at various committees and working groups. Participation in development of emergency treatment protocols.

Professional supervision under Consultant guidance aiming to encourage the development of all doctors within Emergency Medicine.

Contributing to the provision of reports for the Coroner, Police Statements and for Complaints management adhering to time frames. Demonstrating an involvement in Clinical Governance, Risk Management and Clinical Audit.

Contributing to collaborating with Emergency colleagues.

Ensuring own practice is up to date. This will include taking responsibility for own clinical professional development and participation in the Trust wide appraisal system.

Complying with data protection.

Complying with all relevant Trust Policies and Procedures

Job Plan

Hours of duty are 10 Programmed Activities and involves provision of a full shift system during the 24-hour period 7 days a week.
There will be no on-call responsibility.

Experience required
The candidate will be expected to have at least 3 years’ experience post full registration with experience in Emergency Medicine.
