About the Peninsula Heart Clinic

Building on this track record we have recently opened the Peninsula Heart Clinic, a brand new cardiology centre in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Opened in 2019 and based on the Derriford Hospital site, the Peninsula Heart Clinic provides the following elective cath lab procedures to patients in the South West – cardiac angiography, angioplasty (PCI) and device implantation. Treatment at the Peninsula Heart Clinic will be delivered through a brand new, state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab, 5-bed recovery, 5-chair radial lounge, 3 individual bedrooms and extensive outpatient clinic facilities.

About the Job

The successful candidate will support trained nursing staff in the following clinical locations within the Peninsula Heart Clinic: 1) outpatient clinic; 2) cardiac catheter lab; and 3) day-case unit.

You will be required to promote and maintain a caring and high standard of care, meeting the needs of our patients undergoing cath lab procedures (before and after their procedure) and clinical consultations (as outpatients).

Your role will involve working closely with the qualified nursing staff to ensure patients are admitted and prepared for cath lab procedures, that appropriate investigations are carried out and documentation is completed & recorded accurately. The role will involve the whole patient journey from admission to discharge ensuring patients individual needs are met and planned accordingly.

Cath lab service days are currently Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays and it is expected that these will extend to Fridays very soon. Nursing care in the Day-Case Unit is provided between the hours of 07:30 – 20:00 on each of these service days through a combination of early/late shifts and long days. Applications from staff looking for both full and part time positions will be considered. There will be the potential for part time staff to increase weekly hours in line with service growth.

About the Candidate

The successful candidate will enjoy working as part of a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team dedicated to providing the highest quality care to our patients.

The work will be interesting and varied as there will be an opportunity to be involved in audit, as well as maintaining stock levels of equipment and consumables and placing orders. There will be opportunities to liaise with other departments within the trust, to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.

Our patients will be day case and sometimes can be anxious prior to treatment, the candidate will be expected to offer reassurance and support to ensure the patient journey is as smooth and uncomplicated as possible.
