Job summary
The Specialist Rehabilitation and Mobility Centre consists of three core services:
- A Wheelchair service for people living within North Cumbria, who have long term restriction of walking ability because of illness, disability or advancing years. We currently have around 11,000 users
- A Prosthetic service. One of the nine Murrison Centre's in England and that offers specialist rehabilitation services to army veterans, as well as our population including patients in the North East and Southern Scotland. The service currently has 500 patients
- An Orthotic service provided to around 12,000 patients by providing biomechanical assessment to acute inpatients and outpatients requiring orthotic intervention in the wider Cumbria area.
Main duties of the job
The Rehabilitation Centre will be based within the Centre and will predominantly support the Orthotics team.
- Respond to the care needs of the patient with patience and empathy, promoting privacy and dignity
- Act as chaperone and support the patient during examinations
- Arranging of the necessary equipment prior to a casting procedure. Hands on assistance of positioning of patient during the casting procedure
- Ensuring that casts are sealed, labelled and dry after casting procedure
- Awareness of which sessions are happening in which clinical rooms and setting up of equipment prior to these sessions, where appropriate
- Assisting Orthotists during fittings, assessments and trial of orthotic equipment in a ward setting
- Prioritise workload, using initiative to plan and complete patient care and housekeeping duties
- Comply with infection control procedures across the range of duties at all times
- Assist in the safe moving and handling of patients, ensuring health and safety guidelines and protocols are adhered to at all times
- Be aware of the safe use of equipment and security of the area, reporting any faults
- Clean and decontaminate plinths and equipment
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children at an individual level
