Job summary

Due to family relocation for a GP, we are seeking to cover up to a total of four sessions per week on a Tuesday and Friday. You will carry your own list of patients and be their named GP. We are looking for a start in June 2024 but can wait a little for the right person.

Streamside Surgery is a small friendly practice situated in Thornbury Health Centre. Thornbury is a semi-rural market town about 25 minutes drive from Bristol City Centre on easy roads and 10 minutes from the M5 and M4. It also has excellent schools and amenities. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and streamside walk, which our doctors often appreciate on a lunchtime break.

All applicants welcome regardless of time qualified and open to GPs on retainer scheme or those returning to work.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated doctor who can fit into our friendly and efficient team.

Salary dependent on experience, to be at least £9,600 per session.

We welcome visits to the practice for interested candidates.

Candidates will be short-listed and invited for an initial interview.

Successful interview candidates may also be invited to attend a final panel.

If invited for interview you will be expected to bring proof of your right to work in the U.K., CRB and performers list clearance, qualifications and professional registration.

Main duties of the job

We are caring, developing and collaborative with a close knit friendly and supportive team that helps us provide high continuity, resulting in good patient satisfaction and a manageable workload. We believe a happy autonomous and valued team underpins delivery of safe and effective patient care.

We all prefer face to face appointments to working in a call centre and this is generally a more effective way of managing the needs of our patient group, so almost all our appointments are face-to-face. Staff safety & wellbeing is important to us.

About us

  • We have a Principle, Six salaried GPs and a full complement of clinical and non-clinical staff. List Size 5,546 with 22% over 65

    Roughly four patients per hour, with time allocated for reports, SARS and chronic disease reviews, and low visits: average one or less per day per doctor, with time allocated.

    We teach medical students and are a training practice, with GP Registrars rotating through the practice. We are a research practice and care about our sustainability.

Job responsibilities

In accordance with the practice rota, the GP will make themselves available to undertake the variety of daily duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, visiting patients in their place of residence, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, test results, paperwork and correspondence (e.g. medical reports and SARS) as required and in a timely fashion. Making professional and autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self referred or from other healthcare workers within the organisation. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness. Cover all clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing and actioning results, making referrals to secondary care or other providers as appropriate. Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols as well as wider guidance (e.g. NICE). Ensuring appropriate follow-up of patients. Recording clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards. Collecting data for audit purposes. Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions (or hand written if necessary). Prescribing generically whenever appropriate and in accordance with the practice prescribing policy, NICE guidance and good prescribing practice as defined by BNF guidance. Working with and supporting other members of the primary healthcare team in delivering high quality patient care. Apply the codes of practice set by the Royal College of General Practitioners, General Medical Council, Department of Health and local NHS Trust. Play a leading role in the practice achieving agreed QOF and other set key performance indicator targets.
