Come and join the Neurology Therapy team as a Generic Technical Instructor - this is the perfect opportunity to gain skills across both neurology / Stroke and Spinal Injuries.
The Technical Instructor role supports the teams qualified Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists in their work assessing, treating and providing rehabilitation to patients following stroke or spinal cord injury.
The role is patient facing, requires moving and handling skills and involves the need to be involved in personal cares with patients. A portion of the role is admin focused using Trust IT systems.
As this is a part time position, the pay is pro-rata to the figure advertised. Previous applicants need not apply.
Main duties of the job
To support Therapy staff in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation
of inpatients referred into Mid Yorkshire Therapy Services and complete
delegated tasks as required.
The role is patient facing and ward based, requires moving and handling skills including use of handling equipment ie hoists. Role involves the need to support patients with personal cares and toileting. A portion of the role is admin focused using Trust IT systems and liaising with others over the telephone.
This post gives the opportunity to gain experience across different units, due to its rotational nature.

- To support qualified therapists to provide assessment, treatment & rehabilitation to patients
- Use technical/creative skills to engage patients in therapeutic activities & exercise programmes to promote rehabilitation, independence and well-being
- Demonstrate the use mobility aids where appropriate & adjust aids as necessary

- Ensure appropriate and safe manual handling at all times and highlight concerns when this is not being adhered to
- Be responsible for the assessing, issuing and fitting of specialist equipment and the provision of adaptations, aiming to maintain the independence of patients living on or returning to their home environments
- Ensure equipment is safe to use & cleaned in line with trust policies, this includes wheelchairs, walking aids, equipment issued to increase independence and treatment areas
- Within set protocols, facilitate & where necessary instruct in planned group work
- Work with patients on individual activities, providing ongoing continuous assessment & adjust own clinical interventions based on fluctuating needs of the patient
- Under the guidance of a qualified therapist, contribute to formal therapy assessments & provide detailed written and verbal feedback on the patients therapeutic functioning and progress
- Review & follow care & treatment plans & assist in the implementation, evaluation & modification of therapy & team interventions
- Under guidance of a qualified therapist, provide a range of activities/exercises, instructing & guiding patients to support them achieving identified therapy goals
