Job Overview

  • Responsible for carrying out planned preventative and reactive maintenance support including engine major overhauls to ensure reliability of the delivery of power generation on the MoD sites within the Falklands

 

Main Duties

  • 1. Carry out maintenance and overhaul of cylinder heads, fuel injectors, fuel pumps, turbo chargers and associated equipment of various diesel engines to include Deutz, Perkins, Cummins & FG Wilson up to and including 850kVA in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and instructions.

    2. Carry out the maintenance of fire suppression systems, rotary pumps, isolating valves, non- return valves in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and instructions.

    3. Fully comply with the Mitie and  Clients Quality Standards and ensure that all maintenance log books and documentation is correctly and accurately filled in.

    4. Qualify for entry to the Skilled Persons Register

    5. Be prepared to work on MoD remote sites within the Falkland Islands

    6. Respond to emergency call outs when required

  • 7. Complete labour records ensuring work order numbers are accurate and times including overtime is sanctioned before before handing into Supervisor for processing 
  • 8. Carry out any other duties as directed by your Line Manager, or Management Team

 

What we are looking for

    Qualifications /

    Training

  • Educated to English and Maths or equivalent.

  • To have completed and passed an approved apprenticeship or NVQ Level 2 or equivalent In an appropriate Mechanical Fitter discipline 

  •  To have attained, or be working towards an NVQ or equivalent in appropriate discipline.

    Knowledge &

    Experience

  •  

     Experience with recognised H&S procedures.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience maintaining generators

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience maintaining rotary pumps, valves etc. 

  •  Familiar with all types of generator sets and working knowledge of compressed air systems 

  •  Experience of working abroad. 

  • Experience of an MOD environment 

  •  Working knowledge of industrial kitchen equipment (remote sites only).

    Skills &

    Abilities

  •  

     Clean Full driving license.

  • Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team. 

  •  Ability to understand and read technical drawings and work shop manuals. 

  •  Ability to calibrate equipment using specialist measuring tools 

  • Ability to carry out new works from written specification and drawings with minimum supervision.
