Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, flexible and motivated Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join the Flying Start team in Neath Port Talbot.

This 0.8wte permanent Band 6 post is based with the multi-agency team at Taibach Library, Port Talbot. You will be working within a friendly and established team of SLTs and SLTAs who work alongside a wider team of Health Visitors, Childcare Workers and Parenting Teams to support a designated population of preschool children. The role requires travel to various settings, including Child Care settings, family homes and clinical bases. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post.

Post will be available to commence from 1st August 2024.

Main duties of the job

The team in Flying Start focus on early identification and intervention for a range of speech, language and communication needs. You will be supported to deliver training to the wider Flying Start team and parents/carers. There are opportunities to develop your skills at both a universal and targeted level supporting child care settings in the use of screening and intervention toolkits and in Adult Child Interaction within the family home.

You will experience excellent multiagency support working closely with colleagues from Health and Education as well as supporting Clinical Placements for SLT students.

You will be offered:

  • Regular total team development days and paediatric SLT Team meetings
  • Opportunity to actively participate in service development, with a role in delivery, evaluation and audit of specific projects. For example our successful "Help Me to Speak Week" campaign.

  • Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
  • Completion of postgraduate specialist courses e.g. Dysphagia etc.

Experience

  • Assessment and management of individuals with severe and complex disabilities
  • Support and mentor less experienced SLT's, students and assistants
  • Use and interpretation of assessments for specialist caseload
  • Experience and knowledge of use of AAC
  • Planning and delivery of clinical audit
  • Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups
  • Training or teaching of SLTS, other professionals, medical staff and assistants
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision

  • Specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice
  • Accurate administration and analysis of assessments leading to differential diagnosis
