We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional individual to join the Kent and south London area Installations team. Salary and grading will be based on experience and skills.

You will be responsible for the regulation of permitted sites, which will mainly be Landfill/Deposit for Recovery, Biowaste Treatment and Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste treatment sites. The team also regulates the following sectors: Paper and Pulp, Combustion, Incineration, Chemicals, Food and Drink, Oil/gas and COMAH.

Your work will involve:
• Ensuring permit compliance, making complex assessments of operator ability to protect the environment, prevent pollution and optimise resources.
• Conducting site inspections and responding, investigating and undertaking appropriate enforcement action to a range of environmental incidents.
• Securing compliance though virtual and physical audit programmes.
• Managing incidents associated with the permit stock.
• Analysis and interpretation of environmental monitoring and performance data.
• Using your influencing and negotiating skills to ensure best practice.
• Dealing with people at senior levels within industry, local communities and other interested groups.
The post will be based in one of our 2 installations teams. The teams work flexibly across the Area, regulating sites across a range of industrial sectors including chemicals manufacturing, power generation, landfill, hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste treatment, incineration, metal production and metal surface treatment, food and drink, paper and textiles, Oil/gas and COMAH
We are seeking a proactive, self-motivated and confident communicator with practical operational experience and understanding of environmental regulation.
You will be able to demonstrate:
• Significant regulatory or equivalent industrial experience across a range of industries.
• Excellent influencing skills and success in developing good relations in complex environments.
• Experience in delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
• Works in teams to support colleagues to achieve common goals.
• Ability to manage multiple demands on time in a prioritised manner to achieve outcomes and deliver against plans.
• A proven track record of taking initiative and using a continuous improvement approach.
• You will hold an honours degree (or equivalent), ideally in a science or engineering discipline.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

This is a permanent post and a full UK driving licence will be required as is flexibility to travel for operational site visits. A lease car may be provided for business travel in line with our travel policy or alternatively a pool or hire vehicle.
