Job summary

Are you looking for a neonatal nursing challenge? We are seeking dynamic neonatal nurses at Band 5 to complement our Nursing team in advancing neonatal practice.

Walnut is a busy level one neonatal unit with twenty two cots, three of which are currently designated as high dependency and four as transitional care. Our birth rate is rising with around 5000 deliveries per year.

Main duties of the job

You will be well supported in your role by a senior nursing team of seven clinically based Band 7 Senior Sisters, two of whom undertake a Practice Development role for part of their clinical time to support ward staff. The Band 7 Senior Sisters lead a team of qualified Neonatal Nurses, Registered Children's Nurses, Registered Nurses, Nursery Nurses, Neonatal Support Workers and Neonatal Ward Administrators in caring for neonates.

We have eighteen Paediatric Consultants in post, two of whom take the lead for the Neonatal Unit. In addition the service is supported by a Neonatal Outreach service.

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • Ist level registration with the NMC as a Children's Nurse
  • An interest and passion for working within the neonatal environment
  • A commitment to continuing their professional development with regards to completing a post graduate Neonatal course

This post will suit those practitioners who have gained some post registered neonatal experience, however if you are less experienced or newly qualified we would still love to hear from you and offer you an opportunity to develop your career further. Rotation into Neonatal Outreach can be considered for the right applicant.

In return we are committed to continuing your personal professional development within our supportive team environment. We have close links with the University Of Greenwich and level three units within our neonatal network.
