Ward 1 is an exciting and fast paced ward that delivers high quality care to children with congenital and acquired heart conditions and their families.

We provide surgical and medical care as in-patients whilst also facilitating some investigations and medication management on a day case basis, with promoting positive patient experience being at the heart of our care.

To achieve this we work collaboratively as a multi-disciplinary team together with our Children's cardiac outpatient department, Children's Cardiac Intensive Care unit, Children's Cardiac Specialist Nurses and the wider Children's Hospital here at Leicester Royal Infirmary and across the East Midlands Congential Heart Service network.

Children's cardiology provides a variety of opportunities for developing your skills and knowledge in this exciting and interesting specialty. We are a friendly, supportive and welcoming team who enjoy sharing our knowledge and expertise. You will be supported with an induction and orientation tailored to your experience as well be being able to work with our clinical skills facilitator.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluatingprogrammes of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients.

  • Assisting and contributing in the management and organisation of a ward/clinical area.

  • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards ofquality nursing care.

  • Actively participate in the education, development and supervisionof other staff members.

  • Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing andsupporting students and learners on placement within the clinicalarea.

  • Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet theneeds of patients and their families.

  • Staff Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.

  • Policy Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
