Job summary
The Hurley Group is looking for Emergency Nurse Practitioners / Nurse Practitioners to join our Urgent Care Centre based at Queen Mary Sidcup and Erith.
You will work within the team of experienced ENP / NP’s to deliver an excellent Urgent Care Service on a flexible shift basis covering the service from 8am – 12pm daily, 365 days a year.
· You will be a qualified and experienced autonomous ENP / NP competent in assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment of patients, with minor injury and illness, including x-ray interpretation, suturing, plastering and wound management.
· Independent prescribing is an advantage but not essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as an
autonomous practitioner accountable for providing clinical assessment and care management
to patients, offering advice or referral as appropriate. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team
receiving patients as they present with undifferentiated and undiagnosed
problems. Taking an active role in
ensuring quality in line with organisational and national goals and strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver high quality, advanced emergency nursing care
- Assessment of adults and children who may present with complex/chronic illnesses and/or injury
- Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly
- To ensure that patients are fully involved in their care and treatment
- Provide health education and promote healthy lifestyle for patients and carers
- Safeguard vulnerable children and adults.
- To undertake triage/screening as required
- Meet the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care
- Undertake minor surgery as appropriate to competence
- Dispense medication under patient group directions
- If you are a qualified Independent Non-Medical Prescriber, prescribe appropriate medication within the PCT formulary and own professional boundaries
- Request and interpret x rays of extremities if appropriate, following local policies and protocols
- Keep accurate and immediate records of every consultation including assessment and advice regarding patient care using the UCC computer system.
To work as an independent practitioner accountable for assessing, diagnosing, advising, treating and safe discharging of patients in the UCC
- Recognise and work within own competence and professional code of conduct. Priorities, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality
- Assess effectiveness of care delivery through self and peer review, benchmarking and formal evaluation, e.g. audits and implement improvements where required
- Support and participate in shared learning across the unit and wider organisation
- Contribute to maintenance of regulating standards for CQC
- Contribute to meeting the key performance indicators within the time frames identified
- Ensure resources are used efficiently and effectively and all equipment used in the care of patients is appropriately maintained and used only by those individuals with the appropriate training

- ENP/ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness Courses
- Experience in primary care, Walk-in, or A&E environment
- Demonstrate post registration experience

- Proven ability to work under own initiative, proactively identity potential challenges and opportunities and prepare actions plans to address them
- Proven people management skills with experience in staff appraisal and performance management.
- Experience of managing staffing skill mix and rota to ensure service delivery within a set budget
- Experience of :
- managing staff rotas
- Preparing reports for senior management including activity reports to contract review meetings
- Identifying areas where changes in practice would achieve a more effective outcome.
- Previous experience of urgent care. ideally including both UCC and out of hours , and the ability to participate at senior management level and above at meetings
- Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner with multi-disciplinary teams and providing management and coaching/advise to both junior and senior staff members
- Experience of identifying and pursuing future opportunities for the services
- Ability to write business cases to develop the practice in line with A current Clinical Governance policy and legislation surrounding advanced practice, including best practice; medicines management and clinical governance
- Proven track record of effective leadership and communication skills in a range of settings, and ability to effectively negotiate with junior and senior staff members
