Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Trauma and Orthopaedic nurse.

We are looking for a nurse with the relevant orthopaedic experience who will be working with orthopaedic trauma patients to assist their journey from admission to discharge with all long bone fractures, joint injuries and chronic orthopaedic conditions. The successful candidate would be competent in computer skills to aid working with current NHFD guidelines, collecting data and following-up patients post discharge.

The post holder will be also working closely with ward staff keeping them updated on any changes and must have excellent communication skills. They will be required to liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team, to expedite the patient journey and flow through the inpatient resources. They will communicate with patients, relatives and carers including health education, health promotion, care planning, breaking bad news and end of life support.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be assisting in the complex and challenging journey of the orthopaedic trauma patient following this life changing event. The post holder will provide a safe and open approach to their patient care needs, becoming the patients advocate to enable them to make an informed choice.

The Trauma Nurse team will provide leadership of a new Ambulatory Trauma Area, ensuring specialist orthopaedic care of the trauma patient, from the earliest opportunity following the identification of the injuries until their discharge.

The successful candidate will be also be leading and supporting safeguarding issues, working closely with patients living with Dementia and help with referrals both internally and externally.

The successful candidate will be expected to move to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with the Acute trauma as per Hospital Transformation Project, as the project develops
