Job summary

Across the Black Country Local Maternity and Neonatal System we are excited to offer Band 5 preceptorship roles at Dudley Group NHS Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, Walsall Healthcare and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

We are recruiting highly motivated, ambitious, kind, compassionate and enthusiastic Band 5 midwives to join our teams across the Black Country LMNS. For NQMs there are bespoke, 12 - 18 month, preceptorship programmes offered by all the trusts delivered by retentional leads, practice development and Clinical Education teams and supported by our Professional Midwifery Advocates. The preceptorship will include rotation which provides preceptees opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of Midwifery in out Maternity Services.

We are holding a preceptorship event on the 21st May where there will be the opportunity to meet the teams from all our Trusts. To find out more about the event, preceptorship offer and pre book an interview for the event please apply for this role.

Main duties of the job

As a band 5 Midwife your duties will include providing safe, compassionate care to women and birthing people during their pregnancy. This will include working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team that will provide evidence based, inclusive care.

During the preceptorship you will be working in all areas of Maternity services, as part of a rotation, and will provide high standards of care within those areas. We are always looking for innovative ideas and you will be supported to stay up to date with Midwifery care and implementing current evidence-based practice, we are always looking for new ways of working so that those we care for have the best experience.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration demonstrable experience or evidence of band 5 competencies having been approved by professional preceptor/SOM. (pending NMC registration if currently year 3 of pre reg programme)
  • Diploma level studies or equivalent portfolio of evidence.
  • Evidence of a high standard and knowledge of evidence based midwifery care acquired through CPD and experience.
  • Level 3 Child protection training. Sound knowledge of child protection, domestic violence, substance misuse and women with special needs.
  • Basic neonatal and adult life support knowledge and skills

Knowledge

Essential

  • Aware of health and safety issues within the maternity unit and compliant.
  • Uses appropriate moving and manual handling techniques, as part of daily activities assisting women during birth, post operatively and during the postnatal period.

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience in all areas of maternity services developed through continuing professional knowledge.
  • Demonstrates specialist knowledge across a range of work procedures and practices.
  • Experts for the following procedures: venepuncture, Cannulation, perineal suturing and highly technical monitoring.
  • Knowledge and ability to deal appropriately with emergencies in the absence of medical staff.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection policy and legislation in practice
