This is a Temporary, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

37 hours a week. Working a mix of early, late and mid shifts. Will include some weekends and bank holidays

12 month fixed term contract

This role has been created to provide an opportunity for someone with lived experience of homelessness, substance misuse or a history of offending and we will give preference to applicants with this background.  This is a great entry level position which can lead on to the role of Homeless Recovery Worker.

May Place provides 24/7 support to adults, who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  

Our goal is to provide person-centred support to clients so they can develop key life skills to encourage independence, empower them to reach their goals and enable them to move on into independent living.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will learn how to assess and support our homeless clients
  • You will help the support workers by co-ordinates various service responses
  • You will encourage their involvement in personal progression in the form of education, training, employment activity or volunteering.
  • You will support key workers by working with external partners (such as colleges) to maximise the opportunities available to so that they can resettle in the community.
  • You will assist clients to maintain their tenancy / accommodation by encouraging payment of relevant charges
  • You will empower clients to achieve their goals for independent living
  • You will help them with their practical skills in areas such as budgeting, shopping, cooking and housework.
  • Maintain records using relevant systems to a good standard
  • Attend training, supervision, appraisal and meetings as directed which maybe outside of your working hours.
  • Any other reasonable task as requested by a member of staff

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Previous experience in this type of work is not essential but you will have a real passion for wanting to work with homeless people and have a direct personal experience of coping with homelessness, care services, mental health, substance misuse or offending behaviour. Your values will match ours, you will be committed to helping others and enjoy the real job satisfaction that this brings.

  • Clear verbal and written English
  • Basic IT and keyboard skills
  • Polite, assertive manner, ability to self –motivate
