Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and confident portering team leader who will be operationally responsible for the day-to-day portering and car parking services ensure compliance with the national standards and HTM 07-01 within a challenging and ever-changing environment. The Job will involve working on a 2 week rota this will include working alternate weekends and shifts times of either 07:00 to 15:00 and 15:00 to 23:00.

You will be responsible for the efficient, effective, high quality portering services.

The role requires a customer focused personality with an eye for detail and a passion for high standards. Working closely with the IPC and Monitoring Teams ensuring best practice is adhered. You will need good people skills as you will be responsible for providing guidance and advice to staff, training and ensuring the wellbeing of the team.

Applicants should have good organisational skills, the ability to motivate staff and have a proven ability to create effective working relationships and build teams.

Main duties of the job

To provide support and assistance to the Facilities Coordinator in delivering and maintaining a portering and car parking service that achieves a safe and efficient patient environment in line with Trust best practice, policies, procedures and KPI's and the national standards.

You must be able to demonstrate clear day to day leadership skills, excellent communication (both verbally and electronically) to be able to engage and interact with all levels of NHS staff and service users including encouraging, influencing and motivating staff. Ability to prioritise own workload, and able to work both independently on own initiative, and as part of a team. To provide leadership and support to the other facilities staff including porters and car parking attendants, establishing and developing working relationships and regular communications between ward and departmental managers within the Trust.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.1 Ensure effective daily communication with all portering staff, supervisors and Facilities Coordinator

1.2 Escalate any issues which may affect the operation of the department to the appropriate manager

1.3 Ensure staff are appropriately dressed in uniform as detailed in the Trusts Standards of Dress Policy. Report non-compliance to the Facilities Coordinator

1.4 Provide instruction/training on all portering tasks to include; patient movement, deceased patient, waste movement including operation of compactors and waste duties.

1.5 Investigate complaints and report back to Facilities Coordinator

1.6 Ensure effective communications with all wards and department.

1.7 Provide appropriate assistance and advice to patients and visitors

1.8 Ensure that portering staff are made aware of Trust polices and procedures and provide training and support where necessary

1.9 Performance manage staff following discussion with Facilities Coordinator and record evidence of work performance

1.10 Provide manual handling training for lifting and handling of patients, wheelchairs, beds, electric tugs and other equipment and ensure that records of training are accurate and up to date.

1.11 Provide individual care to patients and visitors whilst transporting or escorting them around the site.

1.12 Liaise with Service Desk to ensure all portering activity is completed in an appropriate timescale.

1.13 Assist with the instruction of new employees to the department and any on-going training for existing employees.

1.14 To liaise with Fire/Ambulance/Police services in the event of them being called to site out of hours

1.15 In the event of a Major Incident ensure all portering staff are assembled. Co-ordinate staff to provide sufficient numbers for decontamination tent erection and patient moves.
