Job summary

We are looking for a full time Band 4 Alcohol Practitioner to join our exciting new Alcohol Care Team based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, but with the hope of the development of the team across both Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust sites.

The Alcohol Practitioner will be an integral member of the Alcohol Care Team, which provides care and treatment for patients with alcohol misuse issues in a hospital environment.

The Alcohol Practitioner will be flexible to meet the needs of the team and will demonstrate knowledge, expertise and passion in working within the speciality of alcohol misuse.

Main duties of the job

o To develop therapeutic relationships with clients.

o To have knowledge of the impact excessive alcohol consumption has on physical health, mental health and social issues and to use this knowledge to fully assess patients.

o To provide brief interventions, psychosocial interventions and motivational interviewing as appropriate.

o To screen patients to identify those at risk from alcohol related health and social problems and those whose health is being damaged by alcohol.

About us

The Alcohol Liaison team will have a close working relationship with the gastroenterology/Hepatology Department, Mental Health Liaison Team and Community Support Services, and be supported by a Band 7 Team Lead Nurse and Medical Clinical Lead.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a developing and much needed service within our Hospital.

Experience and knowledge
