Job summary
Camden Learning Disabilities Service (CLDS) is a well established integrated team based in London, Kings Cross.
This post will spend 2 days a week leading SLT in Alexandra College Further Education as part of a multidisciplinary team of OT, physiotherapy, psychology and nursing. This team sits under CLDS. They must have an understanding of Education Health and Care Plans, carry out training for the college staff teams, will attend annual reviews and work closely with their MDT colleagues.
The other 3 days is a community post where the post holder will undertake highly complex assessments, create intervention plans and risk management plans for both dysphagia and communication. The post holder will case coordinate and will represent SLT on pathways such as the dementia or complex physical health pathway. They will supervise junior staff and be a integral part of continuing to improve the services we deliver using initiatives such as QI projects.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take a lead for SLT in Alexandra College (2 days a week) and will also lead projects as required for Camden Learning Disabilities Service (CLDS). They will undertake case coordination for service users who have highly complex needs and will offer clinical supervision and support within the team; this will include the provision of second opinions. They will design and supervise assessment, intervention and training programmes to be carried out in collaboration with service users, carers, teaching assistants, and project workers as appropriate. They will have a high level of understanding of autism and complex needs and approaches with the skills to train and support others in this area. They will contribute to policy development and will lead on the development of clinical protocols and pathways. Liaison with SLTs in schools, acute and community services is essential.
The post holder will deliver assessment and intervention and training in a range of community environments including Alexandra College, service user's homes, respite services and day care settings in Camden. They will work with a range of other professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, teachers and a range of other carers and community personnel. They will encounter a wide range of physically and emotionally challenging conditions in service users' homes and other environments in the community.
