We have an exciting opening for an Early Days in Custody Nurse to join our Primary Care team at HMP Belmarsh a category A Prison located in Thamesmead, South East London.
In this role you will have the opportunity to provide the highest standards of healthcare to our patients, without having to on efficiency and quality.
The working hours are from 07:00 19:00, 3 days one week and 4 days the next.
This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary up to 50,400 per annum - depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
As an Early Days in Custody Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will
- Complete a detailed reception screen and assess risk on new patients within first 48 hours of transfer to the prison.
- Clinically evaluate and ensure the safe transfer of patients to acute hospitals if needed.
- Ensure that plans of care are understood by the patient and the prison as appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience required
- Registered nurse Adult
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
- Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
- A non-judgmental and compassionate approach
- Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards

As the Early Days in Custody Nurse (Adult) your responsibilities will include ensuring patients
have medical plans of care, assessing patients and carrying out relevant
clinical investigations during their arrival, along with arranging follow-up
appointments for them whilst offering advice and giving information. You must
be able to clinically evaluate and ensure the safe transfer of patients to
acute hospitals if needed, as well as ensuring that plans of care are
understood by the patient and the prison as appropriate. You will be able to
demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical decision making. As part of
your role you will support in undertaking audits and governance.
You will provide healthcare to
patients on site in the healthcare unit and locations across the prison. This
will include some emergency care such as suturing, providing emergency response
to undertaking dressings and performing a primary care function. There is a
focus on health promotion and keeping the patients within the prison, safe and
well by providing effective safe care. You will lead a team of healthcare
practitioners some in specialist roles to deliver an effective safe medical
service within the prison.
