Job summary

Do you want to make a difference in a challenging and rewarding role?

We are seeking to employ an experienced, committed, and motivated Children's Nurse who can assess and identify the health needs of Asylum Seekers and Refugee children and young people, primarily in a clinic setting. You will also be required to support families in the community and hotel settings.

The Haven is a specialist community healthcare service for asylum seekers and refugees in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Our team consists of GPs and nurses who assess and meet the initial health needs of new arrivals to the region. We are closely integrated with the wider system, working collaboratively with social care, local authorities and the voluntary sector to advocate for the needs of those we support and provide training for healthcare professionals. We also help people to access health services and other services they need, through appropriate referral and signposting.

As a member of The Haven, you will have the opportunity to influence change and improve the quality of services we are delivering.

Please note, there may be an opportunity for a permanent contract if funding becomes available.

Main duties of the job

You will be very motivated to join this specialist and innovative team and able demonstrate a commitment to providing patient-centered care.

You will be able to work effectively on their own and within a team. At times you will be expected to work to tight schedules.

You will be organised and committed to deliver excellent patient care; you will be expected to communicate effectively at all times.

The role is based at Montpelier Health centre, but you will also work from hotels and, on occasion out in the community; therefore a valid UK driving license is required.

  • Current NMC registration

Desirable

  • Student educator course
  • Leadership / management course

Experience

  • Significant post-registration nursing experience and multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Experience of dealing effectively with safeguarding issues
  • Experience of identifying and participating in service improvement

Desirable

  • Experience working with refugees and asylum seekers
  • Experience of working in a community setting

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Effective communication skills with an ability to develop relationships with patients, parents and staff in other services and organisations
  • In-depth knowledge of clinical practice underpinned by research, including migrant health
  • Understanding of current health agenda relating to the service delivery for school aged children and their families
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation regarding mental capacity, safeguarding etc.

Desirable

  • Able to administer immunisations in accordance with national guidelines
  • Able to complete venepuncture for children aged 5 - 16 years old, in accordance with local and national guidelines.
