This post is fixed term for 3 years due to current funding.
For the first time, Cardiff and Vale Local Authority, in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, have jointly developed a team to support and sit alongside young people and their families who are experiencing high levels of distress. The team is called Goleudy which is the welsh word for Lighthouse - a beacon of hope. Goleudy's core values are: Trauma-Informed, Formulation Driven and Attachment Focused. The team asks 'what has happened to them?' as opposed to: 'what is wrong with them?' This understanding will determine how the team supports young people and their families at times of high distress.
Goleudy sits alongside and under the umbrella of the Enfys team. Enfys are a well-established team working with children who have experienced developmental trauma, particularly children who are looked after. The Enfys and Goleudy Teams hope to co-locate in 2024.
The team consists of Graduate Mental Health Workers, Occupational Therapists, a Clinical Psychologist and team members from Education and the Local Authority. Difference will be celebrated within the team through the promotion of a culture of learning together.
Building, maintaining and growing relationships is key to the team. Emphasis will be placed on working alongside and in partnership of the existing services within the local authority (social work & education) and health systems.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit an 8b Practitioner Psychologist to lead an exciting and dynamic new service to help young people who may end up in hospital due to high levels of distress and a history of developmental trauma.
The Psychologist will be responsible for leading clinically on the delivery of the service, supervision, training, and creating meaningful and impactful change. The Lead will be responsible for co-ordinating the training of Local Authority staff employed to support the young people, and to lead on working partnerships.
The post holder would lead on service development and build strong partnerships with other leaders in the wider Child Psychology network and beyond.
This post will be supervised by the Service Lead for Enfys.

- Substantial and demonstrable post-qualification experience of working as a HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist with experience working with people with gender dysphoria.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings and maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified healthcare professional and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
- Experience of teaching, training and professional and clinical supervision.
- Demonstrable evidence of significant specialist clinical supervision within a scientist-practitioner framework, including supervision, group supervision and case presentations.
