Job summary

The role is to provide front line clinical leadership to all the Cath Lab nursing team, during diagnostic investigations and invasive procedures for both NHS and Private patients, ensuring high levels of professional care are provided.

Main duties of the job

Assesses, plans and implements programmes of care during investigations and procedures, allocating roles to other nursing staff

Recognise life-threatening arrhythmias and summon assistance in emergency situations

Perform and interpret ECGs

Perform venepuncture and cannulation

ILS trained and aspire to ALS training and teaching / assessing for ILS

Scrub for patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation, EP, pacemaker implantation and PCI

Teach and supervise junior staff nurses and unqualified staff

Prepare and escort patients under supervision if needed e.g. during transfer to NHS hospital for urgent/ongoing/ emergency care

Help prepare the lab for clinical procedures.

Maintain and uphold confidentiality of all medical and nursing records and also interpersonal relationships amongst team.

Interpret the significance of patients clinical observations and records, making decisions and planning in areas affecting patient care; reporting promptly to senior medical or appropriate staff any matters which fall outside his/ her responsibility

Lead the care management programme and nursing delivery during procedures and investigations, coaching and guiding staff as required

Share professional knowledge and clinical expertise with all members of the multi disciplinary team

Take the lead role on governance for the clinic

Lead and ensure complaince with infection control, representing the clinic at Trust infection control meetings

Work within NMC Code of Professional Conduct

  • Registered RGN with five years post qualification experience, with minimum of three years in cardiology setting.
  • Experience of leading a nursing team, minimum of two years
