This is a Permanent, Part Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

Part time, 24.5 hours a week. Working a mix of early (8am to 3.30pm) and late (2.30pm to 10pm) shifts, on a four on, four off rota pattern.

Wokingham Young People Services provides 24/7 support for up to seven young people aged 16-21 care leavers and looked after children. 

Our aim is to support to young people with their individual needs to enable them to gain life skills to move on to lower or independent supported living.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will support young people by prompting and helping them to attend appointments
  • You will encourage their involvement in personal progression in the form of education, training, employment activity or volunteering
  • You will help them develop their practical skills in areas such as budgeting, shopping, cooking and housework, laundry, health and hygiene
  • You will support young people with recognising and reducing anti-social behaviour and provide guidance on how to report anti-social behaviours if these are experienced
  • You will work with external partners (such as colleges) to maximise the opportunities available to them, so that they can resettle in the community. 
  • Empower young people to achieve the outcomes they identify as desirable for independent living including support with practical tasks
  • Involve young people in the smooth running of our service
  • Help to maintain a welcoming, safe environment, identifying and minimising all potential risks to all our young people, visitors to the service and the building
  • You will manage young people and visitors in the immediate external areas and any associated safety issues
  • Maintain young people’s support records to our organisational standards
  • Ensure our young people are kept safe, working within our organisational and the  local authorities  safeguarding procedures
  • Complete Health & Safety checks and ensure information is recorded accurately on internal systems in accordance with Health and Safety regulations
  • Follow our organisational policies and procedures
  • Attend supervision, appraisal, training and meetings as directed which may be outside your normal working pattern
  • Any other reasonable task as requested by a member of staff

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Previous experience in this type of work is not essential but you will have a real passion for wanting to work with homeless people.  Your values will match ours, you will be committed to helping others and enjoy the real job satisfaction that this brings.

  • Clear verbal and written English
  • Good IT and keyboard skills
  • Polite, assertive manner, ability to self -motivate
  • Passion for working in a client/customer facing role
  • Knowledge of the benefits system and tenancy legislation
  • Have an interest and genuine concern for homelessness and related issues
  • Knowledge of voluntary and statutory agencies
