Main duties of the job

We have a wonderful opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive Support Worker with a full driving licencein the Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire area. You will be supporting a gentleman with an acquired brain injury, physical disability and some cognitive difficulties to live an independent and active life. Our clients interests include football, playing snooker, table-tennis, shopping, socialising and watching DVDs.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This role will include supporting the client with personal care, as well as identifying and accessing a range of leisure activities in and around the local community, and implementing interventions recommended by a range of therapy professionals involved with the clients care. You will be responsible for the safety and wellbeing of the client while promoting his independence and social skills.

Successful applicants will receive full support, training and supervision from the established support team and Case Manager.

What you'll be working:

The positions available are working across shifts that include days, nights and weekends. Shift patterns are a mixture of long and short days worked between 9am and 8pm, or sleep-in shifts through the night. You may also be required to help with providing cover during periods of annual leave and sickness among the team.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist the client to exercise choice and control over their own lives as far as they are able in everyday matters but taking into consideration cognitive problems
  • Liaise with and support the family as required
  • Assist the client with personal care as needed
  • Supporting the client to use local amenities such as shops and leisure facilities and attend community events
  • Follow the service user plan as documented for the client
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Participate in moving and handling procedures as specified for the client
  • Maintain professional boundaries with the client and their family members, adhering to direction from the case manager as appropriate

About you:

  • Full, clean UK driving licence is essential
  • Dependable and professional - you value honesty and discretion
  • Previous experience working with clients with brain injury is preferable but not essential
  • Willing to learn and complete training including the Care Certificate and NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS and enrol in the DBS update service
  • Flexible and you work well under pressure
