Are you looking for a
patient facing role with the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and
make a difference to patient care? We are looking for full time and part time pharmacy
technicians to join our expanding primary care network pharmacy teams. The
successful candidate will be enrolled on the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate
Education primary care pathway to develop them in their patient facing role and
supported locally by a clinical pharmacist. The post holder will provide
support to general practice staff with regards to prescription and medication
queries. They will undertake medicines reconciliation on transfer of care and develop
systems for safer prescribing through local audits. The post holder will work
as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a patient-facing role. This is a new
role within our PCNs with the successful candidate being able to shape the role
of the pharmacy technician in primary care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play an important role, complementing
clinical pharmacists, communitypharmacists and other members of the PCN multi-disciplinary team. Working
under supervision of a pharmacist they will ensure effective and efficient use
of medicines. Pharmacy technicians core role responsibilities will cover
clinical, and technical and administrative categories.
The purpose of the role is to lead improvements
to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve the
quality of patient care. The post holder will help patients to get the best
from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols,
improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotion
of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming
to reduce wasted medicines.

decision-making conversations with patients.
Provide expertise to address both
the public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle
advice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities.
Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine
administration (e.g. checking inhaler technique), supporting medication reviews
and medicines reconciliation. Where required, utilise consultation skills to
work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines
effectively.
