Accounts Assistant

One Ashford Hospital, part of Phoenix Hospital Group, based in Ashford, Kent, is looking for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our friendly Finance team.

As our Accounts Assistant you will have good attention to detail, strong accuracy and excellent communication skills. This is a really varied role where the successful individual will be responsible primarily for revenue capture, raising invoices accurately in a timely manner as well as posting supplier invoices and other ad hoc tasks within the finance team.

Experience in a similar role is essential.

Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday. Flexible shifts between 8am and 6pm. Possibility of hybrid working, minimum of 3 days in the office per week.

Accounts Assistant

Reporting to the Finance Manager, as an Accounts Assistant you will provide outstanding support to the business in relation to accounts payable.

The role will involve:

  • Producing accurate invoices that are determined by the hospital tariffs with various insurers and other organisations and collect payment from patients if required
  • Ensuring all invoices/credit notes are raised within agreed timescales.
  • Liaising with other departments across the hospital to resolve billing queries.
  • Handling first-line credit control queries with patients, insurers and other stakeholders when queries are received by Credit Control
  • Issuing credit notes and process patient refunds in accordance with hospital policy
  • EDI accounts to the appropriate insurance companies using Healthcode, ensuring successful submission. Sending relevant change orders for accepted items once price proposals agreed
  • Supplier invoice processing
  • Dealing with customer and supplier queries
  • Complete any financial reporting requirements for the Finance Department
  • Undertake general office duties and any other duties as may be requested by the department lead

Qualifications

  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent, including English and Maths

Experience

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required
  • Relevant experience within a finance role
  • Experience in managing own workload and meeting deadlines
  • Experience in a private healthcare environment

Skills

  • A professional and confident telephone manner
  • Excellent oral, written and negotiation skills
  • Sound numerical skills with a high level of accuracy
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of Excel
  • Attention to detail and accurate data entry

Desirables

  • Desire to complete accounting qualification (AAT or similar)
  • Previous experience using financial software
  • Previous healthcare sector experience
