Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team, Market Lavington surgery is a busy rural practice in the heart of Wiltshire. We aim to provide a high level of service to all of our patients and understand that we are a cornerstone in our community.

As one of the initial points of contact for the Surgery, the impression you create will be lasting. You will in some cases be the first clinical contact the patient will experience, helping to gather information for the clinical team to aid the patients healthcare journey.

Whilst this is a part-time position, we would occasionally need you to be flexible to provide additional cover for holidays or sickness when required.

Main duties of the job

  • Working under the direct supervision of the Nursing team and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of a direct referral from a GP.

Job responsibilities

To assist medical personnel in the care of practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.

A uniform must be worn at all times, which will be supplied by the practice.

They will act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors, nurses and other members of the primary health care team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
  • Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures
  • Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers.
  • Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity.
  • Checking patient identification against GP request and confirming with patient whenever possible
  • Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with Practice procedure
  • Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff.
  • Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues
  • Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team
  • Performing Blood Pressure Monitoring
  • Performing ECGs
