Job summary

You will undertake medication rounds, dispense controlled medication, attend emergency response situations, assess patients, and undertake reception screening.   HMP Wayland is a category C training prison holding adult males, and has a capacity of 1,017. The prison originally opened in1985, and since then, has been added to significantly, increasing its capacity by some margin.  

Main duties of the job

You will be a Registered Nurse (RGN) looking to develop your current skills in a unique and ever changing environment. You will have a passion for learning and development, as well as having the initiative to bring new ideas and opinions on how to improve the healthcare services. Prison Healthcare experience is not essential although we do ask that you have experience within primary care.

We offer opportunities to develop in to a specialist role of your interest which in turn benefits the service. Examples include ANP, BBV, sexual health, ILS (intermediate life support), health promotion, phlebotomy, vaccinations, suturing, wound care, RCGP, and long term condition courses.
