Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist (Critical Care)

Band 8a, 37.5 hours per week fixed term for 1 year.

An exciting new opportunity to lead and develop team of therapists working across Critical Care and Specialist Medline at the Princess Royal University Hospital has risen for a fixed term 1 year period covering maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for the King's College Occupational Therapy service to grow, offering the successful candidate a unique workplace experience and a chance to be part of a world class team.

Main duties of the job

As a part of the Critical Care service at The Princess Royal university Hospital Site based in Orpington, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop their clinical skills to provide specialist care for critically ill patients including:

  • Neurology
  • Cardiology & cardiothoracic
  • Respiratory
  • Orthopaedics
  • Renal and haematology.
  • Specialist Medicine
  • General Medicine and Surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Spinal Trauma

As a clinical lead you will be responsible for the operational management of the team, supervision and educational development of your staff and clinical excellence within your team.

You will work closely with all members of the MDT to provide comprehensive functional and cognitive assessment and rehabilitation, positioning and seating plans, splinting, disability management, sensory programs (disorders of consciousness, central neurological and peripheral nerve injury) for the above patient cohort and much more. All staff within this service receive a comprehensive induction and training. Staff at Kings College Hospital are encouraged to engage in research and participate in local and national communities to continue to develop this clinical area of practice.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist with the following skills, experience and interests:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in leading the development of the Occupational Therapy service on Critical Care and leading and developing staff.
  • Skills and experience in the management of patients with acute and rehabilitation needs
  • Skills and experience in working with patients with neurological conditions in the acute setting.

Working in a department, which offers a wide range of experience, you will be encouraged and supported to develop your clinical, teaching, and managerial skills as well as contribute towards service development.

You must have a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy and be HCPC registered.
