Location:      Taurus Crafts, Lydney, Gloucestershire. GL15 6BU

Purpose:      To produce creative and innovative food in a fast-paced environment, being financially aware and able to manage a budget. The Chef will have an outgoing and enthusiastic manner with the ability to liaise and interact with customers and work with a mixed ability team.

Salary:           £24,570 - £25,837 per year (£12.60 - £13.70 per hour)

Hours:          Full time 37.5 hours per week. 8am to 4:00pm. 5 out 7 days working week. Job-share considered.

We have an opening for someone to join us as a chef at our café in Taurus Crafts. If the following appeals to you, we’d love to hear from you:

  • You have experience with event catering.
  • You have proven experience in working in a busy kitchen environment.

Who are we looking for?

  • You’ll need to be physically fit: some of the work will require lifting and moving of stock or equipment.
  • You’ll have at least two years’ experience working within a busy kitchen environment.
  • You will have a relevant qualification including food allergies and intolerances.
  • You’ll need to have a very high personal hygiene standard.
  • You’ll have awareness and application of Health & Safety procedures.
  • You’ll have a good working knowledge and respect for high quality produce, sourced from local suppliers.
  • You will be able to demonstrate proficient preparation and cooking skills.
  • You will show respect for all produce and contribute towards the required gross food profit margins.
  • You will be able to work in a pressured environment whilst maintaining a calm, happy, constructive working atmosphere in a customer service orientated team
  • You’ll be able to be flexible to work additional shifts when major events or function are planned. As a centre, we attract families and visitors from all over the county plus holidaymakers to the Forest of Dean. It can get very busy but is a bustling, vibrant community.

What are the main responsibilities of this role?

  • Menu development and planning, cooking and producing delicious and nutritious food using fresh, local and organic produce where possible.
  • Food production within the kitchen, to include occasional special events, party catering and functions.
  • Working with the Café Manager and kitchen team to manage all aspects of the food chain including sourcing of local and organic products where possible; safe storage, preparation and presentation; purchase cost and portion control; and waste management.
  • To work to enhance the customer experience through increasing efficiency in working practices, developing a creative, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere and environment, and through promoting an ethos of customer centred service.
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices in the cafe to ensure statutory requirements are met and the strategic objectives are achieved.
  • To conduct all aspects of daily, weekly and monthly cleaning of the kitchen, equipment and other food service areas.

Role requirements:

  • Good level of standard education.
  • Minimum Level 3 Food Hygiene certificate.
  • A “can do” attitude and willingness to ensure all our customers receive a great experience.
  • Ability to manage on a tight budget whilst still being creative and providing exciting nutritious food.
