Job summary

The Mandeville Practice, a dynamic and growing practice in Bucks, has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our team.

The successful candidate would maintain our values of excellent patient care and join our vision of meeting the health needs of our diverse population. Previous experience of working as a HCA in a NHS GP Practice would be advantageous.

The successful candidate would work as part of an excellent administrative and a multidisciplinary clinical team (including GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and Clinical Pharmacists).

We aim to develop positive, supportive and professional relationships with every patient, clinician and allied professionals that we come in contact with

We use Emis Web clinical system

Working hours: Minimum 37.5 hours per week

Main duties of the job

To assist in patient care and practice related duties as directed by and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional. The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work under supervision of the clinicians in providing patient care

2. Assist in Minor Surgery Clinics

3. Run Chronic Disease Management Clinics

Job description

Job responsibilities

You will be required to undertake and record the following tasks:

Measurement of blood pressure, temperature

Measurement of pulse, height and weight

Referral to weight management services

Peak flow measurements-following additional training

Venepuncture

Collection of specimens as directed

Urinalysis

Blood Glucose monitoring patient education

Application of dressings (as directed by the practice nurse)

Ecgs

Extended new patient registrations checks

Additionally, you will also be required to

Recognise changes in the patients observations which must be reported and acted on

Assist clinicians in emergency management of patients

Enable patients to access appropriate professional in the practice team

Act as a chaperone

Appreciate the Principles of Healthy Living

Provide relevant health promotion literature for patients

Is the link person within the practice for health promotion activities including cervical/ breast/bowel and chlamydia screening

Carry out NHS health checks, CVD /Diabetic and any other requirements in line with the Local Incentive schemes/ Extended primary care contract and QOF

Latent TB Testing

Alcohol screening (audit C) for all new registrations aged 16 years and above

Administer flu and pneumococcal vaccine as per the TWN CCG/practice guidelines

Responsible for the collection of clinical waste/sample /sharps bins and take to designated storage areas ready for collection.

Responsible for any spillages that may occur on the premises in line with infection control/practice policy

24 hour ABPM fitting /setting up of device

Spirometry

Clearly represent patients point of view to others

NON-CLINICAL / ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure stock items are ordered and provided in GP & treatment rooms, emergency equipment

Maintain clinical equipment efficiently and ensures servicing is undertaken

Follow infection control standards

Contribute to new ideas to improve patient care

Instruct patients in appropriate techniques or tasks

Administrative Support to clinicians and non-clinicians

Liaise with health care professionals

Filing and record keeping as appropriate

Undertake template entry as directed

Help nursing staff order medicines, vaccines, and clinical supplies, and maintain stock checks of the previously mentioned items when directed

Checking vaccine fridge temperature daily and checking expiry dates of drugs on a regular basis

Follow up DNAs in accordance with practice protocol

Work effectively in a team including

Provide reception cover if requested including answering the telephone, receiving and transmitting messages, form filling, book patient appointments

Interact with colleagues in a professional manner

Always act in a way to protect the confidentiality of patients and maintain the integrity of the patient/health carer relationship

Maintain and adhere to Health and safety principles at all times

Always be aware of own limitations and do not carry out any task or procedure that is beyond the HCAs scope of competence

In Clinical Practice, you are expected to

Maintain set standards of organisation in development treatment rooms

Take appropriate action if standards are not being met

Recognise potential areas of conflict, preventing where possible and reporting to senior staff members if unable to resolve

Attend regular study days and maintain safe standards of practice

Act as a support and share good practice with other health care assistants
