Job summary

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust has a reputation for providing quality healthcare to the local population of South Yorkshire.

We are seeking to appoint a part-time Consultant in Orthodontics to join the current Consultant in Orthodontics and be part of a dedicated team in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics. This is a replacement post.

The successful candidate should hold a CCST and be on the GDC Specialist Register in Orthodontics and should also have obtained the ISFE in Orthodontics or be within 3 months of attainment at time of interview.

This post is for 2.5 PAs but applications from those who wish to work fewer hours will be given equal consideration.

Rotherham is conveniently situated, with excellent motorway access, and is close to the Peak District, Sheffield and Meadowhall Shopping Centre. There are excellent local state and private education facilities.

Main duties of the job

The primary clinical responsibilities of the post-holder are:

General

1. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in Orthodontics with evidence based practice.

2. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.

3. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.

4. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

5. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Orthodontic Department at Rotherham General Hospital is situated within the main out-patients area and is shared with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

It provides a full range of Orthodontic services to patients from the Rotherham area, including the treatment of orthognathic patients, and patients with hypodontia and impacted teeth. Multidisciplinary clinics are held within the department with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Consultant Restorative Dentist from the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital in Sheffield.

There are currently 2 modern well-equipped surgeries allocated to Orthodontics, with a third surgery shared with OMFS. The department has its own radiographic and Cone Beam CT facilities, and all surgeries have computer terminals for viewing of digital radiographs on the PAX system. An intra-oral scanner has recently been added in one of the surgeries and the department uses Dolphin imaging software for dento-facial imaging. The Orthodontics / OMFS laboratory is sited within the department, which includes a desk-top scanner to enable digital storage of study models. All instruments are sterilised in the Central Sterilisation Unit of the hospital.
